Today we will talk to you about the main application methods of the protection systems for a metal structure.
The application methods are as follows - brush, roller, spray gun and airless - The following is a brief description of them.
APPLICATION OF PROTECTIONS WITH BRUSH
Brush application, as it is the slowest, is usually used for small and narrow areas, and in height or when spraying equipment cannot be used. The brushes must be compatible with the product to be applied and of the appropriate size according to the surface to be painted. We recommend you to visit the following page:

NOTE: This application method is NOT recommended for high system thicknesses.
APPLICATION OF PROTECTIONS WITH ROLLER
One of the main methods for protecting metal structures is roller application. It is used for large surfaces because it is faster and more efficient than brush application, but it achieves lower thicknesses per coat. It is necessary to select the most suitable size and length of pile for each job and product. We recommend you visit the following page: https://www.pentrilo.com/es/productos?categ=1&aplicacion=All

APPLICATION OF PROTECTIONS WITH CONVENTIONAL GUN
This application method uses high working pressures to provide excellent atomization and therefore very good finish quality with high application speed. However, these high pressures lead to significant material wastage (up to 50%) and are therefore recommended for use in the shop and for highly aesthetic finishes.
The air volume, air pressure and paint viscosity must be adjusted and controlled to obtain a homogeneous atomization of the paint and thus avoid defects and high wastage. On the other hand, when a paint is applied with a spray gun, it must be diluted, so in order to achieve the desired thicknesses, the number of coats must be doubled, thus penalizing the speed of application.
Nowadays there are other types of guns such as HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure), hybrid and LVLP: (Low Volume Low Pressure) which, by reducing the application pressure, minimize wastage.
APPLICATION OF PROTECTIONS WITH AIR-LESS
Another of the most interesting methods to protect metallic structures is the airless application. In this type of application the air does not mix with the paint, which has the following advantages:
- High viscosity paints can be applied without dilution.
- Material wastage is lower (than in conventional spray gun applications).
- Speed of execution.

Nozzle selection will be based on the geometry of the structure to be painted and the viscosity of the paint. Therefore, when choosing the nozzle, these three factors must be taken into account:
IMPORTANT!
During the application of any protection system on a metal structureIn this case, we must take into account the environmental conditions
- Condition of the substrate, which should be clean and dry.
- Substrate temperature (between 10 and 3SºC).
- Atmospheric conditions during application (see parameters indicated in data sheets)
